Construction of a preliminary peripheral neural interface by tissue engineering

This study is to investigate the technical details of constructing a tissue engineered neural interface, which can accomplish a bi-directional communication between the nervous system and the external environment for closed loop control of sensorimotor function in daily life.First we designed an axon stretch system to engineer and produce neural interface tissue constructs, which can entice host axon ingrowth and synaptic integration.According to test,we find take 1 μm every step is the most stable. Then dorsal root ganglion(DRG)explants were cultured in the new chamber. Here we found that poly-D-lysine(PDL)is the best coating material for Aclar substrates. In future,we aim to test the ability of transmitting electrical signals between living nerve constructs and electronic devices. We intend to transplant the engineered neural interface tissue constructs into the rats sciatic nerve study the control of these prostheses. The goal of this effort is to design artificial limbs which the amputees can control as if it were a natural extension of their body.
