THE PROPERTIES OF SELF-COMPACTING CONCRETE INCORPORATING RUBBER AND EPS PARTICLES
For the sake of understanding the effect of waste rubber and expanded polystyrene (EPS) particles on workability and mechanical properties and durability of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) and thus further developing new self-compacting concrete, SCCs incorporating a blend of normal aggregate and waste rubber or EPS particles were prepared. And then the properties of SCC incorporating combined aggregates in flesh state and hardened state, including workability, dynamic elastic modulus, compressive strength and chloride ion permeability were investigated by experiments. Results indicate that SCC with adequate workability can be successfully produced by using rubber or EPS particles as fine aggregates, partially replacing the same volume of sand. The addition of rubber or EPS particles can result in a remarkable reduction of mechanical strength and dynamic elastic modulus of SCC.And the compressive strength and dynamic elastic modulus of SCC with EPS is slightly lower than that of SCC with the same volume rubber replacing sand. The chloride ion permeability of SCC can be effectively decreased by using rubber or EPS partially replacing sand.
