DISCUSS ON THE CORRELACTION OF STEEL RING STRAIN AND RESIDUAL STRESS DEVELOPMENT IN CONCRETE DUE TO DIFFERENTIAL SHRINKAGE IN RING TEST

The section stress of concrete specimen caused by differential shrinkage of drying from the outer circumferential surface in ring test was deduced and the relationship between the steel strain and stress state of the concrete specimen section was discussed in this paper. The results showed that: tension and compression region exists in the concrete section due to the differential shrinkage only.Tensile stress is significantly greater than the compression region and the maximum tensile stress occurs at the interface between tension and compression region.Tensile stress is likely to lead to partial cracks in the tension region of concrete section. The apparent residual stress under equivalent uniform shrinkage is reflected by the tested strain of steel ring which does not directly reflect the value and distribution of the concrete section stress. But the cracking development can be judged by combination of the development trend of steel ring strain curve and specimen cracking process in the test.
