Slope Monitoring and Landslide Disaster Mitigation in Malaysia
Landslide has become one of the major natural disasters, besides floods, in Malaysia.Site surveying and monitoring are carried out to predict slope failure and reduce casualties, by the government. In the study, applying the numerical analysis on the mechanisms of resisting and driving forces in the slope (factor of safety F) and the snake curve method, with the observed data from devices, will predict the flow of underground water and the movement of the soil in slope. The prediction will lead to early warning dissemination.Furthermore, by referring to the historical landslides data, topography data and soil texture, the risk of landslides in large areas can be predicted with rainfall data, which can be estimated by radar with calculations or collected by rain gauges.
