Early Warning System for Earthquake-Induced Landslides in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan
The 2005 Kashmir earthquake (M=7.6) in Pakistan has triggered numerous landslides in Muzaffarabad city and its surroundings. The earthquake-induced landslides mostly become active after the earthquake and would thus have a significant risk to local people and property in populated areas especially in this upcoming rainy season.A JICA funded pilot project, the early warning system (EWS) based on the real-time monitoring of the earthquake-induced landslides is developed to reduce the risk of death, injury, property loss and damage. The paper presents the design and operation of the landslide EWS.
