Analysis of the Global Database of Landslides at Hydropower Structures
The information about 350 landslides that affected different hydraulic structures in Russia and other countries since 192o was analyzed.Among natural processes dangerous for hydropower structures the most commonly encountered is the formation of landslides on valley slopes.Their activation and development at sites of headwork structures and in zones of reservoirs inflict serious economic, social and ecological damages.Formation of landslides is characterized by a variety of combinations of factors of different importance.In this case each factor demands a special approach both at its analysis and quantitative assessment.It is necessary to make design decisions for selection of stabilization and supporting measures.On the basis of the analysis of engineering-geological data the main factors of landslide formation at hydropower projects were distinguished.Using the results of the present generalization it is possible to reveal factors affecting stability of rock masses in each particular case more justifiably and purposefully and recommend most efficient stabilization and supporting measures.
