Landslide Hazard Mapping of Tegucigalpa,Honduras-Capacity Building by JICA-JSPS Project of 2012 to 2014
Tegucigalpa city was seriously damaged by serious landslides and related disasters, triggered by Hurricane Mitch in 1998.Since that time, the city has been damaged sometimes and threatened by landslides because that the slopes after the 1998 big landslides are prone to sliding again. However, in Honduras, there are almost no scientists concerning about landslides and related disasters even after such big disasters in 1998.Therefore, JICA-JSPS started the project of dispatching experts on landslide disasters from 2011 to 2013.This project is focusing on capacity building for landslide hazard mapping using GIS and AHP based on air photo interpretation in order to make landslide hazard mapping. On GIS landslide working, the authors guided that the inventoried landslides move to ARCGIS10 and are expressed as GIS polygons as the main scarp and equivalent debris. The Landslide Map of Tegucigalpa as the result of this project is the fundamental database for further hazard map. This is a preliminary report of the project.
