EFFECTIVENESS OF WATERGLASS SURFACE TREATMENT IN IMPROVING CONCRETE DURABILITY

　　The long-term performance of concrete highly depends on the ingress of deleterious substances,which is governed by the permeation properties of its cover layer.This study evaluated several aspects of durability of concrete treated with waterglass as a surface treatment agent.Experimental results indicated that waterglass treatment could significantly decrease the index of water permeability and air permeability,and the carbonation depth by above 50% at 56d,wihich proved that the waterglasswas effective in improving durability.It was also found that the surface strength of concrete was slightly improved by waterglass dispite the compressive strength was unchanged.
