LOW PRESSURE CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR FOR THE PLASMA TREATMENT OF GRANULAR PARTICLES

A Circulating Fluidized Bed reactor operating at low pressure was built to circulate wheat grains, and a non-thermal plasma was ignited in the riser tube to reduce microbial contamination on the grains surface. To understand the complexity of pneumatic conveying of granular particles at low pressure conditions, we established a model to predict pressure drop and particle velocity and compared the findings with experimental results.Good agreement was found between model and experiments, and simulations show that pressure drop is dominated by particle gravity, while particle velocity is defined by gas particle friction and particle gravity.Furthermore, simulations explain the effects of variation in gas flow rate, particle mass flow rate and pressure level, which strongly influence pressure drop and particle velocity.
