CFD STUDY ON FAST PYROLYSIS OF WOODY BIOMASS IN A FLUIDIZED BED USING KINETIC THEORY

  Various factors affect hydrodynamic characteristics and fast pyrolysis of woody biomass in the BFB pyrolyzer.Especially, this study focused on the effects of sizes of biomass inlet on hydrodynamic characteristics and the fast pyrolysis reaction in the rectangular shaped reactor.To sum up the results, in both two cases small bubbles are generated, and they affect particle motions.Hence good particle mixing is observed.Consequentially, fast pyrolysis of woody biomass can occur all over the bed.However, since the length of biomass inlet is longer in case 2, it seems that biomass particles can spread more widely and mixed well with sand.Thus, the bio-crude oil yield is increased.
