MODELING OF FUEL FLOW IN CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED BED FURNACES

Modeling of biomass combustion in fluidized beds is challenging due to varying chemical and physical properties of biomass particles.Physical properties such as low density, wide particle size and shape distribution have a major effect on the drag force. In this work a characterization method is presented to experimentally obtain an average drag force for solid materials and a new approach to modeling of fuel flow is introduced into an existing holistic three dimensional CFB furnace model in order to better predict and analyze biomass fuel flow.
