MODELING OF THE PARTICLE RESIDENCE TIME DISTRIBUTION IN FLUIDIZED BED RISERS USING A STATIONARY DEM-BASED MARKOV PROCESS

A stochastic model based on first-order Markov chain that represents the motion of particles in a 2D fluidized bed riser is introduced. The matrix of transition probability is calculated directly using statistic data obtained from a DEM simulation. The probability distribution of particles position is shown based on the Markov process. It indicates the capability of the stochastic model to describe the macroscopic properties of particles movement.Residence time distributions (RTD) of DEM simulation and stochastic model are compared, and the mathematical expectations have less than 2% difference. The stationary DEM-based Markov process successfully characterizes RTD property of the fluidized bed riser. The influence of cells size on the RTD in Markov process is discussed, and it seems to be unimportant in this case when concerning RTD.
