A DESIGN OF INTERNAL TO INHIBIT GAS AND SOLIDS BACK-MIXING IN FLUIDIZED BEDS

  The desire long exists of inhibiting gas and solids back-mixing in fluidized beds while maintaining the heat and mass transfer efficiency.A specific type of internal is designed in this work which has proven to be effective in reducing the back-mixing of both gas and solids in fluidized beds.The internal is tested using various tracer techniques, including phosphor tracer in a 2-D bed, hydrogen tracer in a 3-D column with both pulse and steady input, and hydrogen tracer with steady input in a scaled-up column of diameter 60cm.The internal is finally utilized in a fluidized bed reactor to improve the yield of aromatics in the methanol aromatization process.
