SCALE-UP OF RESULTS FROM FUEL CHARACTERIZATION TESTS TO BOILER GEOMETRY
Fuel characterization tests are often first carried out in laboratory and pilot scales. In the present study, fuel characterization results obtained for a bituminous coal in a pilot scale circulating fluidized bed facility are combined with steady-state CFD simulations to evaluate the effects of load change in the geometry of a 12 MW boiler. The results clearly show the effects of the larger geometry on the distribution of fuel and gas components. In the larger geometry there is a larger lateral variation of combustion conditions.
