BUBBLE SIZE IN FLUIDIZED BEDS WITH AND WITHOUT VERTICAL INTERNALS
An ultra-fast X-ray tomographic scanner located at the TU Delft is applied to study the hydrodynamics in a bubbling fluidized bed with and without vertical heat exchanger tubes. The objective is to measure the influence of vertical tubes on the hydrodynamics and finally to design and scale-up catalytic bubbling fluidized bed reactors with vertical internals. So far, hydrodynamic properties, such as size, surface, and shape of the bubbles in a reactor with integrated vertical heat exchanger tubes are rarely found in open literature. With the new measurements, correlations for the bubble size shall be developed, aiming to reliably scale-up bubbling fluidized beds with vertical internals.
