EFFECT OF COAL ADDITION ON DEPOSITION IN A BIOMASS FIRED CIRCULATING FLUIDIZED-BED BOILER

To investigate the effects of coal blending on the migration of alkali metals during biomass combustion, experiments were performed in a CFB biomass boiler. The deposits were derived from high-temperature superheater and were analyzed using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and other analytical approaches. The results indicate that coal addition significantly enhanced the formation of potassium sulfate and potassium aluminosilicates, reduced or removed potassium chloride in the deposits, thus reducing the corrosion risks.Overall, the results from this work suggest that coal can be an effective additive to minimize the possible ash deposition and corrosion problems in CFB biomass boiler.Coal addition can significantly enhance the operation of a fluidized bed fired with biomass.
