REENGINEERED FEEDSTOCKTM COFIRING WITH COAL IN A TANGENTIAL-FIRED PULVERIZED BOILER
Experimental tests of ReEngineered FeedstockTM (ReEF) co-firing with coal have been conducted in a nominal 300,000 Btu/hr, balanced-draft, tangential-fired pulverized coal combustion unit. The test objectives included (1): validating the ReEF concept and effectiveness as a renewable energy source and an air emission control technology for coal-fired power generation units;(2): understanding ReEF co-firing characteristics and potential impacts on coal utility boilers operation and performance and (3): gaining insights into further optimizing ReEF formulation and production process. For all of the tests a real-time Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) was used to measure SO2, NOx, HCl, CO, Hg and furnace exit O2 concentrations. The temperature profiles and ID fan draft across the system were recorded and analyzed. The combustion produced bottom and fly ash samples were also collected for analysis to determine the contents of major and trace elements, fusion temperatures, loss of ignition (LOI), and toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP).The impacts of co-firing on high temperature slagging, fouling and electrostatic precipitator operation were carefully examined.
