NUMERICAL STUDY OF THE GAS-SOLID FLOW CHARACTERISTICS IN N-TYPE LOOP SEAL

  The gas-solid flow characteristics in a novel N type loop-seal with lower flow resistance was investigated numerically with Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics (CPFD) methods in this paper.The flow hydrodynamic in the N loop-seal was predicted and compared with the traditional U loop-seal with same key geometrical size.Parameters including particle flow rate, pressure distributions and the gas bypass flow phenomenon were mainly concerned in the comparison.The influence of operation parameters, namely the fluidized air velocity (uf), the loose-air velocity (ul) and the proportion of the loose-air (rl), to the gas-solid flow characteristics in N-type loop seal were also concerned.The prediction results were validated by the experimental observations qualitatively.The results showed that 1) the new N-type loop seal can transfer a larger particle circulation rate for CFB than the traditional U-type loop seal under the same condition.The improved slope channel in N loop-seal reduced the horizontal transporting distance as well as the flow resistance;2) the N-type loop seal has an obvious advantage that the gas bypass flow phenomenon is under control effectively;3) the particle circulation rate in the N-type loop seal is largely influenced by the total aeration rate and/or the proportion of the loose-air (rl).The N-type loop seal is less dependent on the rl than the U-type loop seal, thus the new structure of the N-type loop seal enhance the particle recycle ability of the loop seal.
