Solar Lands:Foods and Energy

The production of foods and the renewable energy sources have decisive bonds to reach results in the local development and the sustainable development in general.This link facilitates to achieve the food and energy sovereignty.One of the actions that are developed in Cuba is the project Solar lands that has as main purpose to create and to strengthen synergies between the production of foods and the use of the renewable energy sources.The project implements a farms network in all Cuban provinces which produce foods of vegetable and animal origin,with approaches of energy sustainability due to the use renewable energy sources.The main activities are: to study the energy,agricultural and environmental potentialities of the farms and neighboring communities; to contribute to the promotion of energy,agricultural and environmental good practices starting from the renewable energy sources and the healthy food; to train to the producers and their families,as well as to the users of the agricultural production generated in the farms,and to foment the rural tourism with view to improve the quality of life of the producers and their families.The main expected results are: to create of a network of agricultural farms,to install and use of several renewable energy technologies,to increase of the food production and to promote the farms in the national and international context.The purpose of this work is to present this project which is being implemented since this year 2013 in several Cuban farms.
