Wind Resource Modeling for Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center Using WASP
Considering the relatively flat terrain of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center,wind energy resources of high resolution over this region were simulated with the WASP software.Three kinds of methods to obtain digital maps and how to draw roughness lines accurately through importing high precision background maps were introduced in this paper.Since lack of historical wind measurement data in this area,both the magnitude of 50m high wind speed and the dominant wind direction in a whole year were provided by the simulations of 3km resolution from the MM5.Results of the study show that there is potential of developing low-speed wind power projects in the second stage engineering of higher education mega center,while these projects are not suitable for the first one.Due to the annual average wind speed was lower than 5m/s in most of the first stage engineering,modifying scenery complementary lights along the Pearl River maybe a good suggestion.
