Energy Storage Flywheel for Wind Power
This paper presents a new type of energy storage flywheel with axial-gap electric machine.The flywheel is mounted on a vertical shaft and it is driven by two axial-gap permanent magnet synchronous motors.The two motors hvave a commom rotor served as the flywheel.Permanent magnets are pasted on the common rotor upper and lower surfaces.Controlled magnetic pull difference of the two sufaces provides axial suspension of the flywheel rotor,Radial bearing is realized by using the permanent magnetic ring bearings.The energy storage flywheel can significantly overcome the stochastic and intermittent problems of the wind resource and reduce fluctuation of the wind power grid.This paper focuses on the modeling of electromagnetic force of the common rotor,the design of a suspension controller,and the flywheel charging and discharging control.
