The Application of Schaeffler Coating Technology in Wind Energy Turbine Bearings
Coating technologies are important design and product elements of bearings,as a result of applications of various coating technologies in industry, the reliability as well as the performance of bearings are enhanced significantly.Coatings used in Schaeffler bearings of wind turbines include a variety of technologies such as black oxide, zinc phosphating, diamond like carbon coating(DLC coating),Polytetrafluorethylen coating(PTFE coating),plasma sprayed ceramic coating, and thermal zinc spraying coating, etc. The adoption of diverse coatings in different applications of wind turbines are determined by corresponding application requirements, characteristics of coatings, and cost factors etc.Take the spherical roller bearing used in the floating side of a main shaft of a wind turbine as an example,in order to reduce the friction coefficient and prevent bearings from fretting corrosion, both PTFE coating and zinc phosphating coating can be used on the outside surface of the outer ring.In this thesis,a range of typical coating technologies used in Schaeffler bearings of wind energy turbines will be discussed in terms of coating processes, coating features, application requirements as well as the practical experiences etc,so that we have an overview concerning the application of latest coatings technologies in wind energy bearings.
