Assessment of Various Models for The Wake Behind Wind Turbines on Complex Terrain

  An investigation on the appropriate model of the wake behind the wind turbine rotor over complex terrain was performed in Jeju Island,South Korea.The Gasiri wind farm was chosen for this work,where 13 wind turbines with rated power of 750kW and 1500kW.A 70m height met mast was installed among wind turbines for obtaining the real wake data.The distance of between a wind turbine and the met mast ranged from 2.4 times the rotor diameter to more than 10 times the rotor diameter.Applying the Jensen model,Eddy viscosity model and ECN wakefarm model,wake velocity profiles were drawn and those were compared with the real wake data.It was found that velocity deficit occurred the most around hub height of a wind turbine.The proper wake model over complex terrain was proposed in this paper.
