A Ladder of Standardization Strategy for Chinese Enterprises
Enterprise standardization strategy means that an enterprise will strategically evaluate its internal and external environmental factors and resources, and use the tool of enterprises standards, with the aid of standardization and the related activities to upgrade the enterprises competitiveness, to create and maintain the competitive advantages.Existing relevant literatures focused on the enterprises with network externalities, and the strategy selection models dependent on only one or two external variables.Realistically each enterprise can and should select its desired standardization strategy.Standardization will promote innovation, reduce cost, improve external relationship, and provide an opportunity to monopolize the market combined with enterprises intellectual property (IP), yet it will cost greatly for the enterprise. Thus standardization strategy should be developed and improved according to the enterprises resources and capacities. Then we can classify enterprise standardization strategy into five stages: introduction, starting, follow-up, development, and overtaking, each stage will be possessed of its own characteristics and strategic tools. Therefore, enterprise standardization will develop hierarchically.Because of poor management and low efficiency, Chinese enterprises should plan and implement standardization efficiently, and select the desirable development path in terms of its stage, strengths, internal and external factors.
