The Relationship between Stakeholder Orientation and Social Performance: A Legitimacy Management Model
How to manage the relationships between firms and stakeholders through the values inherent in the corporate institutional environment to improve social performance is an important topic.Based on the legitimacymanagement model, attempts were made to resolve the following issues: (1) How about the efficient scope of the effect of stakeholder orientation on social performance? And (2) whether the stakeholder orientation and Values Systems are complementary? Combined legitimacy view on stakeholder-orientation, values and social performance, we investigate above two question based on the data of 309 Chinese firms.Empirical research has found that stakeholder orientation likely in a higher level with a wide range of shared values.Corporate Stakeholder orientation has an efficient scope effect on social performance by the significantly reversed U-shape.Stakeholder orientation and values synergy leverage on social performance for values complementary the effect of stakeholder orientation on social performance.Corporate can creating legitimacy from stakeholder strategy and shared values, while be maintained and repaired with their synergy interaction.
