Characteristics of New CEO and Improvement of Corporate Performance: the Moderating Effect of TMT Heterogeneity --Based on Empirical Data of Mechanical Listed Company
This study, with Upper Echelons Theory as the theoretical basis and 105 listed mechanical companies that experienced change of CEO between 2005 and 2009 as the objects of study, conducts empirical study on relationships between new CEOs and top management team (TMT) heterogeneity and improvementof corporate performance.It is shown that new CEOs educational levels and improvement of corporate performance are negatively related;and that both TMT age heterogeneity and tenure heterogeneity have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between new CEOs educational and professional backgrounds and enhancement of corporate performance, while TMT age heterogeneity has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between new CEOs MBA educational backgrounds and enhancement of corporate performance.
