ENERGY AND EXERGY ANALYSIS OF THE BIODIESEL PRODUCTION PROCESS USING JATROPHA CURCAS.
Due to the rapid growth of the world population the global energy consumption is growing rapidly. Most of the energy consumed comes from fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas. However, these non-renewable resources will be depleted in the near future so the search for alternative energy sources, both renewable and sustainable, has gained importance.Inedible oils as extracted from the Madhuca Indica,Jatropha Curcas and Pongamia Pinnata can be used as an alternative to partially replace diesel, from these it is possible to obtain biodiesel from esterification and transesterification processes,in the same way the residual biomass can be used as a fuel in cogeneration processes. In this article the energetic and exergetic analysis of the biodiesel production process from Jatropha Curcas fruit is performed. Also the use of the residual biomass in a cogeneration process which provides the steam and energy to the biodiesel production process is analyzed with the help of Engineering Equation Solver(EES)software. The results indicate exergetic efficiency indicators of 46%for the extraction process,5.59%for the esterification process,46.84%for the transesterification process and 20.68%for the entire production process.
