3D Numerical Analysis of a Modified Straight Channel to Increase the PEMFC’s Performance
A complete three-dimensional proton exchange membrane fuel cell is simulated using CFD techniques for the study of a fuel cell consisting of a modified straight channel in which fins are added along the length of the flow distributor. The objective of this work is to find the configuration and distribution of the fins that increases the fuel cell performance when compared with the simple straight channel.Parameters such as height, width, percentage of the channel volume occupied by the fins and the number of fins are varied.Current density distribution, power density and main overpotentials are used as parameters for comparison purposes in evaluating the cell performance of the different proposed designs.
