ALTERNATIVES FOR HOT SANITARY WATER PRODUCTION IN CENTRALIZED CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS

This paper presents an analysis of hot sanitary water production in a centralized chilled water system with the use of a condenser heat recovery system and the support water heating system.Thermoeconomics methods are used to determine an exergetic indicator of the system at different cooling capacities.A life cycle cost(LCC)analysis of various hot water production alternatives were studied, which are: electric, gas and solar heaters. The thermodynamic evaluation revealed that the solar water heater presents the higher exergy performance, being 25%higher with respect to the electric heater. With life cycle cost analysis it is evident that the best alternative for hot water production is the use of solar water heaters, which achieved a LCC of 4,5 times less than the LPG heater system, and 16,4 times less than the electric heater. The use of the solar heater decreases the hot water cost in comparison to the other alternatives. These represent a significant reduction in energy & CO2 emissions.
