Selection of organic working mediums using regression analysis
As opportunities to capture low grade thermal energy increased in recent years from renewable sources such as solar,or from industrial exhausts such as boilers, selection of the working mediums for a thermodynamic cycle has gained more and more relevance. The selection becomes more intricate when the variables increase,-involving subjective and objective criteria such as global warming abilities, ozone depleting potentials, toxicity, flammability, atmospheric lifetime,as well as thermodynamic properties. In this paper,we propose logistic-regression based classifier that predicts the probability of any working fluid as a desirable candidate, with emphasis on ultra-low grade heat driven organic Rankine cycle. As a validation of the suggested tool, more than 80 candidate working fluids are screened, and rated. The preferable working mediums among those evaluated based on environmental impacts are HFCs and HCs.
