EFFECT OF FUNCTIONAL SURFACE ON THE OSCILLATING MOTION OF APULSATING HEAT PIPE
The flow pattern and heat transfer performance in pulsating heat pipes (PHPs) are strongly influenced by the surface wettability. This paper focus on the heat transfer performance and slug motion in PHPs with superhydrophilic evaporation and superhydrophobic condensation section.Experimental results showed that the surface hindered the backflow of condensate liquid and the dryout phenomenon occurred in the PHP with uniform superhydrophobic surface. The liquid slug movements became stronger in the functional surface PHP comparing with the uniform superhydrophobic PHP at the same heat input. The liquid slug movements became weaker in the uniform superhydrophobic surface PHP due to the lack of condensate liquid supplied to the evaporation section.
