Full Mission Bridge Simulations-a Must for (Complex) Offshore Projects

A Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMB), DNV Class A (or equivalent), is a ship simulator with a ships bridge where a bridge management team (e.g.captain, pilot, mate, helmsman) can carry out all possible missions (e.g.entering/leaving a harbor, navigation through a busy channel, etc.)that should be carried out on board of that ship.Such FMB simulators are generally used to train seafarers and pilots in the art of sailing a ship under all kinds of different conditions (including emergencies)and they are also used for nautical (research) studies such as accessibility (new) harbors and sometimes installation of offshore units. In this paper,it is shown that the use of FMB simulations is a must for (complex) offshore projects and that it is, amongst others, penny wise and pound foolish not to do so.
