The Mechanical Analysis of Subsea Manifold Lowered into Deep Water

  This paper aims to study two installation methods (drill pipe installation method and winch installation method) of subsea manifold lowered into deep water and presents key results of manifold installation.Based on the material characteristics of drill pipe (or winch wire), two theoretical models are proposed to deal with the horizontal displacement and axial tension along drill pipe (or winch wire) during the lowering process.A MATLAB programming including the high order matrix equation is developed to calculate the horizontal displacement and axial tension.The key results from the theoretical method show good consistency with the finite element model using OrcaFlex.
