Numerical Simulation of Submarine Pipeline Upheaval Buckling with Different Imperfection Styles
Upheaval buckling is likely to damage HT/HP submarine pipeline in service.The simple calculation formulas developed so far cannot give out accurate results and cannot satisfy the more rigid design requirements.Initial imperfection brings the biggest uncertainty on this problem.To investigate its influence, pipeline upheaval buckling has been simulated by numerical calculation technologyFEM in this paper.By a lot of simulation some factors related to initial imperfection are investigated.Simulating results show that pipeline imperfection shape has large influence on upheaval buckling critical load and thats why the analytical methods with simple initial imperfection assumption sometimes cannot give out accurate results.
