EFFECT OF TASK CONDITIONS ON GRASP FORCE DURING PICK-AND-PLACE TASK

Pick-and-place tasks in manual handling require upper-limb work with repeated carrying and grasping of objects. It is important to clarify the factors influencing workload, because repetitive upper-limb work can cause damage to hands, arms, and shoulders. This study aimed to clarify the effect of working speed, object weight, and distance on grasp force and muscle load. The grasp force and muscle activity were used as evaluation indices. The results indicated that (1) the working speed was the dominant factor affecting upper-limb load;(2) object weight did not affect muscle load but affected grasp force;and (3) distance to the object affected muscle load of the upperlimb.
