IMPROVING ROUTING DECISION FOR OPTIMIZING DISTRIBUTION OF BAKERY PRODUCTS IN THE BANGKOK METROPOLITAN AREA, THAILAND
This paper examines truck routing optimization for a companys distribution center (DC) that produces and distributes bakery products to 32 branch nodes located in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Thailand.In this company, the planners have to spend hours focusing on their manual planning with spreadsheet software.To address this issue, we developed the decision-making software by using our original approach that based on the savings algorithm which is the most widely applied in many commercial routing packages to increase the efficiency of the route assignment and especially suitable for the practical use.Through our approach, we were able to significantly reduce computing time and total cost of delivery for supporting the planners decision.
