PRODUCTION/EMPLOYMENT PLANNING WITH EMPLOYMENT ADJUSTMENT UNDER BUSINESS UNCERTAINTIES

　　Jobless problem is one of the key political and economic issues in many countries 1.Some countries use layoff scheme which is better able to economically respond to economic uncertainties than career employment scheme.Career employment scheme which is adopted by some socialistic countries brings less political issues under economic uncertainties but has a tendency to keep higher labor costs than layoff scheme.Many private companies in Japan have employed not only permanent workers but also many temporary workers to avoid higher labor costs in recent years.On the basis of these facts, the purpose of this paper is to propose production/employment planning with employment adjustment under economic uncertainties.We would generate many scenarios of demand forecasts of productions which are based on the shipment of three types of digital appliances in Japan from 2004 to 2008.The appliances are digital camera, digital TV set and old-style mobile phone which correspond to growth, mature and decline products, respectively.Finally we would show some cases which have merits to discuss our proposed planning.
