DECISION MAKING USING PARALLEL ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION ON WEAPON TARGET ASSIGNMENT IN MULTILAYER AIR DEFENSE

The multilayer weapon-target assignment (MWTA) problem is an important issue in the field of military command and control. The objective of MWTA optimization is to allocate defensive weapon resources to incoming enemy missiles/aircraft so as to maximize the survival asset value subject to weapons and area availability at asset, cost and manpower constraints. This paper presents a parallel implementation of an ant colony optimization (ACO) for the solution of MWTA problem. The ACO algorithm in general, offers good quality of solution, but it still needs considerable computational time and resources when the complexity of the problem increases.A parallelization strategy is a good idea to improve computational efficiency.A parallel ant colony optimization (PACO) algorithm to solve MWTA is presented. We evaluate the PACO algorithm proposed by studying the convergence speed and efficiency.Experimental results show that the execution time of the algorithm with five clients decreased considerably.
