AUTONOMOUS DECENTRALIZED CLUSTERING MECHANISM FOR AD HOC NETWORKS BY USING BACK-DIFFUSION

To make scalable routing in ad hoc networks, clustering mechanisms introducing hierarchical structure are crucial.Requirements for such clustering mechanisms include autonomous actions, flexibility, and environmental adaptability. We have proposed autonomous mechanism that can form spatial structures by using back-diffusion and diffusion. In two-dimensional lattice topologies, we have verified whether this mechanism as a clustering mechanism can fulfil such requirements, and obtained positive results. However, due to the fact that the behavior of this mechanism is strongly influenced by node degree in the networks, it is not clear to be able to apply it as a clustering mechanism for ad hoc networks. This paper investigates whether our mechanism as a clustering mechanism is applicable for networks having complex topologies. In our discussion, the unit disk graph (UDG) is used for representing the topological characteristics of ad hoc networks.
