Finite Different Ground Shapes Printed Spiral Antennas for Multi Wide Band Applications Using PPPC Feeding Scheme

In this paper, three printed spiral antennas are proposed taking into account eliminating the presence of ground plane under the radiating element for not to affect on the spiral radiation characteristics. This can be done through choosing L,U and rectangular shape as a finite ground plane. The proposed antennas consists of two FR4(dielectric constant of 4.65 and thickness of 1.5mm)layers with foam(dielectric constant of 1.05 and thickness of 1.6mm)layer inserted between them.Upper layer, two arms spiral antenna placed on its top where the lower layer has microstrip phase shifter etched on the surface and finite ground plane on its bottom.Parallel-plane perpendicular-current(PPPC)feed method will be used through connecting the spiral antenna arms with the microstrip phase shifter using shorted vias. The proposed antennas are fabricated and its reflection coefficients are measured and compared with its computed counterparts.Gain, directivity, axial ratio and other antenna parameters are studied using the IE3D Method of moments based software.
