PERFORMANCE OF CARRIER PHASE ESTIMATION QPSK OPTICAL COHERENT RECEIVER WITH N BIT RESOLUTION ADCS
We study the performance of QPSK optical receiver with carrier phase estimation in the presence of N bit resolution ADCs.Two carrier phase estimation schemes,decision-aided maximum likelihood and M-th power,are considered.Bit error rate(BER)of the receiver with phase noise,amplitude noise and ADC quantization noise is theoretically analyzed.Monte-Carlo(MC)simulation results show that 5 bit ADC resolution is sufficient for both phase estimated schemes with less than 0.2 dB SNR penalty compared with the case of infinite ADC resolution.The results are also verified based on latest version of VPItransmissionMaker while less than 0.5 dB OSNR penalty is observed.
