AN ACTIVE QUEUE MANAGEMENT ADAPTATION FRAMEWORK FOR SOFTWARE DEFINED OPTICAL NETWORK
Software Defined Optical Network(SDON)is gaining more and more adaptability,as flexible optical transceivers make it possible to control the switching characteristics in the physical layer.Towards upper layer, openness is also being considered,an open framework to dynamically adapt Transmission Control Protocol(TCP)has already been proposed. However, openness in queue management, which plays a key role in Optical Packet Switching and has direct impact on link congestion and latency,is seldom studied. This paper addresses the need for adaptively control Active Queue Management(AQM)in SDON and proposes an AQM adaptation framework called OpenAQM.We describe the framework and give proof of concept by NS2 simulation. The results show that major improvement in queuing delay and decreasing jitter is achieved under OpenAQM.
