DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED HEAT RESISTANT MATERIALS FOR IGCC AND AUSC POWER PLANTS

Integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC)power plants and advanced ultra-supercritical(AUSC)thermal power plants are believed to be used as future power plants for high efficient and clean energy production.Increase in the efficiency of these plants is mainly attributed to the increase in temperature and pressure, and the consequent environments become much tougher. This will give a great challenge to the materials used in these plants. The new materials with even higher creep strength combined with better corrosion resistance need to be developed. This paper will provide an overview on the newly developed advanced heat resistant materials for these applications. It will mainly focus the following two types of materials. One is a newly developed advanced heat resistant austenitic stainless steels for AUSC boilers. The material has been tested in several boilers in Europe.Another is one type of composite tube material for convective syngas cooler in the coal gasification process, reverse composite tubes for the firetube boiler.A 15 years application experience of this type of composite tube material will be discussed.
