Process and System Design Using the D.R.I.V.E.S.Model
Industrial Engineers are facing a challenge to develop sustainable system design.Lean,as an example of system design methodology, fails to achieve anticipated results mainly due to two reasons.First, the system design methodology has focused on designing the process, not on identifying process to be designed.Second,it does not sustain the design because the designs are not tested for robustness of model and there is no place to modify solutions based on culture. We propose the DRIVES model as the framework for implementation to figure out the two issues above. This paper proposes the DRIVES model with a detailed methodology to address the process identification issue and briefly stimulates a discussion on sustainability employing the reliability and cultural approach. Each stage of the defined metrics will reveal certain capabilities for both individual and collective(teamwork)basis.Within the DRIVES model, the Hofstede model provides a unique perspective into cultural variation.
