Numerical Research on Rotating Band Engraving Process of a Large-caliber Howitzer under Two Different Charge Conditions
To explore the mechanism of rotating band engraving process of a large-caliber howitzer under two different charge conditions(Case 6# and Case 2#),the finite element model of the rotating band engraving into the forcing cone section of the gun tube was constructed.The dynamic engraving processes of the rotating band under Case 6# and Case 2# were studied respectively through numerical simulations,and the maximum resistance,the engraving pressure and the projectile velocity at the corresponding time were obtained.The dynamic engraving resistance of the rotating band,the engraving pressure and the movement of the projectile were also calculated.The calculation results show that the projectile motions,the dynamic engraving resistance and the engraving pressure values in Case 6# and Case 2# are different remarkably.This work is helpful on studies of initial conditions of projectile motion and complex phenomena in bore during the period of engraving under different charge conditions.
