Effect of Different Explosive Charge on Fragments’ Formation

  To analyze fragments formation situations of a warhead shell under three different explosive charge,8701,JO-8 and CL-20,this paper made numerical simulation of the effect of different explosives charge on fragments formation by the application of fragmentation warhead design software and AUTODYN-3D finite element software and also did research on fragments maximum initial velocity by experiments.The result shows,with the increasing of explosives density,detonation velocity and detonation pressure,50SiMnVB steel shell forming fragments total number increases by 36.0%and the significant fragments quantity which mass are over 1g increases by 5.1%.The change laws of initial velocity along warhead axis of fragments under the three different explosives charge are accordant that the minimum initial velocity appears where approaching the initiation point and the maximum initial velocity appears where about 60%cylinder length away from the initiation point.The maximum initial velocity of fragments under CL-20 explosive charge is largest.Contrast to the situation under JO-8 explosive charge and 8701explosive charge,it increases by 12.4%and 17.4%.
