Application of Hilbert-Huang Transform for Gearbox Fault Diagnosis
FFT and wavelet analysis methods have been widely used for fault diagnosis of gearbox. However,it is often unpractical and difficult for utility in dealing with the non-stationary fault signals.According to the non-stationary characteristics of the vibration signals in gearbox,Hilbert-Huang transform method is adopted for gear fault diagnosis in this article. The method involves two parts, empirical mode decomposition(EMD)and Hilbert transform. At first, the collected time series signal is decomposed into intrinsic mode functions(IMF)with time scales of different characteristic by EMD method, which is suitable for processing non-linear and non-stationary signals. Then the Hilbert transform is executed for the decomposed signals. Thus the fault information can be obtained from the resulted analysis. The diagnostic results on gear pitting fault signal show that the characteristics of gear fault can be effectively extracted by this method.
