Crashworthiness Optimization of a Car Based on FEA Simulation and Experimental Study

  Explicit FEA simulation and practical experiment were adopted to study the crashworthiness of a car.The FEA model of the whole car was built in this study which including the steering mechanism and tires.In explicit FEA analysis,dynamic properties were analyzed.By comparison with the results of practical crash experiments,it indicated that the relative errors were slightly.Therefore,the FEA analysis could be applied in crashworthiness simulations effectively,and it could direct the design of the car bodies.Based on these FEA analyses,the unreasonable structures were found and optimized.After optimizations,FEA analysis was performed for one more time.By comparison with the results before optimizations,it proved that the optimized structures could absorb energies rationally and its safety was improved,so this optimization method was effective and could be applied in the practical engineering.
