Numerical Modeling of Spar Platform Tethered by a Low-tension Cable
This paper puts forward numerical modeling of a spar platform tethered by a low-tension cable through a spherical joint.The spar modeling is established considering buoyancy,hydrodynamic drag forces,and effect of added mass and Froude- Krylov.The cable is divided into several finite elements through the application of lumped-mass-and-spring modeling,and each element is identified by a new element-fixed frame.External forces acting on the cable can be expressed effective by the new frame.The bottom of cable is fixed on the seabed by spring forces,while the top of cable is connected to the bottom of spar platform by a modified spherical joint.Finally,this numerical modeling is verified with commercial simulation code,ProteusDS.The verification is conducted under the same sea state,wave,and current.
