On the Edge of Chaos of an Underactuated Planar Five-Bar Mechanism: Experiments and Simulations
This paper address the chaos of an underactuated closed chain planar five-bar mechanism, and focus on the edge of chaos, which is defined as transition boundary between ordered motion and chaotic motion.Experiments and simulations are conducted varying the input angular velocity. The time histories of the displacements of slider are measured.Based on the acquired data, the phase portrait,Poincaré mapping and Lyapunov exponent are obtained to indentify whether the motion of the mechanism is chaotic or not.The results show that the edge of chaos is an interval, which means the motion of the mechanism transit from periodic motion to chaotic motion smoothly, and not abruptly.
